REGENESIS is a new work that celebrates nature in a series of glass and steel sculptures based on Michel Tabori’s resin on canvas flexible light installation, THE ABSTRACT FOREST. Each piece is comprised of a towering flat column of inch thick plate glass that extends to a height varying between six and eleven feet and is mounted on a steel and aluminum base that contains a concealed LED light source focused on the glass. The interior of the glass is designed in endless shapes and shades of soothing greens, occasionally along side other seamlessly complimenting or dramatically contrasting colors inspired by nature’s purest forms that evoke a peaceful, calming, spiritual feeling of communing with nature while passing through a densely wooded mountain forest. In harmony with the abstract glass columns, soft white figurative sculptures of human forms in various familiar pursuits are placed throughout the installation that not only give the work a sense of scale but also bring to mind the possibilities of both the positive and negative impact of man’s interaction with his surroundings in contemporary modes of life and how seemingly harmless acts can profoundly effect our environment. To further emphasize the impact of those acts and in stark contrast to the tranquil nature of the overall installation, video screens in the shape and size of the glass columns are installed at the far end of the work. These screens display an ongoing and sometimes disturbing montage of still and video images of the various forces, both natural and man made or political and economic, that threaten all forms of life and remind us that these forces, left unchecked or at the very least, unconsidered, can threaten our very existence. Computer controlled lighting throughout the work constantly changes, simulating various natural effects such as wind and sun or day and night. As the forest becomes dark we are reminded of the enormous loss should our most precious natural resources be diminished. As the light returns the forest is reborn in celebration of the extraordinary power and resiliency of natural forces in all its forms. To appreciate the full impact of the work, REGENESIS should be experienced in its entirety. However, all individual pieces will be available alone or in groups and are suitable for both interior and exterior installation.
